Netherlands 26: Koeman Keeps Memphis and Timber, Summerville Earns First Call-Up, Frimpong and Schouten Left Out

Ronald Koeman has named the Netherlands 26 for the 2026 World Cup, two days later than originally planned to give Memphis Depay and Jurrien Timber extra time to prove fitness. Both make the squad. West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville earns a maiden senior call-up. Jeremie Frimpong and the injured Jerdy Schouten miss out; De Vrij, De Ligt and Xavi Simons are all out injured. Friendlies vs Algeria on June 3 and Uzbekistan on June 8 precede the Group F campaign with Japan, Tunisia and Sweden.

R onald Koeman has officially named the Netherlands 26 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The reveal was pushed back from Monday to Wednesday to give Memphis Depay and Jurrien Timber additional days to demonstrate fitness; both make the final list. The headline new face is Crysencio Summerville of West Ham United, in line for a first senior cap. The headline omissions are Jeremie Frimpong, left out after a difficult Liverpool season, and Stefan de Vrij, Matthijs de Ligt and Xavi Simons, all ruled out injured. Jerdy Schouten's injury opens the door to Marten de Roon.

Two days extra for Memphis and Timber

The original date was Monday. Koeman moved the announcement to Wednesday so the staff could weigh fitness assessments on Memphis Depay, the Netherlands all-time record goalscorer, and Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber. Both were included after the extra evaluation. Memphis carries his goal-scoring record into a tournament that may be his last on the global stage; Timber's availability is critical to the right side of the Dutch defence given De Ligt's absence and De Vrij's injury.

The full 26

Goalkeepers (3): Bart Verbruggen, Mark Flekken, Robin Roefs. Defenders (8): Virgil van Dijk, Jan Paul van Hecke, Jorrel Hato, Mats Wieffer, Micky van de Ven, Denzel Dumfries, Nathan Aké, Jurrien Timber. Midfielders (8): Frenkie de Jong, Teun Koopmeiners, Ryan Gravenberch, Tijjani Reijnders, Marten de Roon, Guus Til, Quinten Timber, Justin Kluivert. Forwards (7): Memphis Depay, Wout Weghorst, Brian Brobbey, Crysencio Summerville, Noa Lang, Donyell Malen, Cody Gakpo.

Notable inclusions

Crysencio Summerville of West Ham United is the headline new name. The winger earns a first senior call-up. Marten de Roon returns as cover after PSV midfielder Jerdy Schouten ruled himself out injured. Guus Til is preferred ahead of Luciano Valente and Kees Smit. Mats Wieffer is positioned as the back-up right-back, a versatility call that reflects Frimpong's omission.

Notable omissions

Jeremie Frimpong does not feature. The Liverpool full-back endured a difficult debut season with the club after his Bayer Leverkusen move and the head coach has left him out. Stefan de Vrij, Matthijs de Ligt and Xavi Simons are all unavailable through injury. Schouten's late injury triggers the De Roon recall. Without De Vrij and De Ligt, the centre-back rotation runs Van Dijk, Van de Ven, Aké, Van Hecke and Hato.

Friendlies and Group F schedule

Two warm-ups remain. The Netherlands face Algeria on June 3 and Uzbekistan on June 8. From there, the Oranje go to North America for Group F, which pairs them with Japan, Tunisia and Sweden. The bracket reads as Netherlands-favoured for first place, with Japan, Tunisia and Sweden all chasing the second qualification slot.

Quick facts

Captain: Virgil van Dijk. Head coach: Ronald Koeman. Best World Cup result: runners-up (1974, 1978, 2010).
