Morocco 26: Ouahbi Names Hakimi-Led Squad for 2026 World Cup, Brahim Díaz and El Kaabi In Attack

Mohamed Ouahbi has named the 26-man Morocco squad for the 2026 World Cup. Achraf Hakimi captains a side built on the spine that made history reaching the Qatar 2022 semi-finals. Real Madrid attacking midfielder Brahim Díaz and Olympiacos striker Ayoub El Kaabi headline the attack. Morocco enter as the reigning CAF champions (awarded after the disputed final against Senegal) and arrive in North America with the deepest European-club spread of any African nation.

M orocco have named the 26-man squad with which Mohamed Ouahbi will lead the Atlas Lions into the 2026 World Cup. Captain Achraf Hakimi anchors a group built on the spine of the Qatar 2022 generation, the first African team in history to reach a World Cup semi-final. Morocco arrive in North America as the reigning CAF champions, with the African title awarded by bureaucratic decision after the disputed final against Senegal.

A historic generation in continuity

Three and a half years on from the Qatar 2022 semi-final run, the senior core remains in place. Hakimi (PSG), Aguerd, Mazraoui (Manchester United), Bono, El Kaabi and Ounahi all carry that experience into a tournament where Morocco arrive among the heaviest favourites from Africa. The squad also extends with European-academy products who have come through since 2022, deepening the rotation in midfield and the wide positions.

The full 26

Goalkeepers (3): Yassine Bono (Al-Hilal), Munir El Kajoui (RS Berkane), Ahmed Reda Tagnaouti (Raja Casablanca). Defenders (9): Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain), Nayef Aguerd (West Ham / Olympique Marseille loan), Noussair Mazraoui (Manchester United), Anass Salah-Eddine (Twente), Chadi Riad (Crystal Palace), Youssef Belammari (Al Ahly), Issa Diop (Fulham), Redouane Hahlal (Mechelen), Zakaria El Ouahdi (Genk). Midfielders (7): Sofyan Amrabat (Fenerbahçe / Real Betis loan), Ismael Saibari (PSV Eindhoven), Neil El Aynaoui (Roma), Bilal El Khannouss (VfB Stuttgart), Azzedine Ounahi (Girona), Bouaddi (Lille), Samir El Mourabet (Strasbourg). Forwards (7): Brahim Díaz (Real Madrid), Chemsdine Talbi (Sunderland), Ayoub El Kaabi (Olympiacos), Soufiane Rahimi (Al-Ain), Abde Ezzalzouli (Real Betis), Ayoube Amaimouni (Eintracht Frankfurt), Yassine Gessime (Strasbourg).

Hakimi at the centre

Achraf Hakimi captains his second World Cup. The PSG right-back has been the most-marketed Moroccan face in world football since his Champions-League-winning campaign with Paris, and Ouahbi has built the side around his transitions on the right and the relationship with Hakim Ziyech-era veterans in midfield. Hakimi's role under Ouahbi is the most consistent line from Qatar 2022 into the new cycle.

Brahim Díaz and El Kaabi lead the attack

Real Madrid attacking midfielder Brahim Díaz, who switched international allegiance from Spain to Morocco in 2024, headlines the forward line. Olympiacos striker Ayoub El Kaabi, who has continued his prolific form in the Greek Super League and Europa Conference League, provides the senior centre-forward presence. Abde Ezzalzouli at Real Betis, Soufiane Rahimi at Al-Ain and Eintracht Frankfurt's Ayoube Amaimouni round out the rotation.

CAF holders, with an asterisk

Morocco enter the World Cup as the reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions, the title awarded after a major dispute around the final against Senegal. The procedural route to the trophy has not been universally accepted, but the medal is in the cabinet either way and the squad will carry that status in North America.

Strong European spread

Half of the squad plays Premier League or top-five league football. England (Hakimi at PSG is Ligue 1, but Mazraoui, Riad, Diop are Premier League; Talbi at newly promoted Sunderland), Spain (Brahim Díaz, Ezzalzouli, Ounahi), Germany (Khannouss, Amaimouni), Italy (El Aynaoui, Amrabat — on loan at Betis), Netherlands (Saibari, Salah-Eddine), France (Bouaddi, El Mourabet, Gessime, plus Hakimi) and Belgium (Hahlal, El Ouahdi) all carry Moroccan internationals in their first XIs.

Quick facts

Captain: Achraf Hakimi. Head coach: Mohamed Ouahbi. Best World Cup result: semi-final (Qatar 2022, the first ever African team to reach this stage). Reigning Africa Cup of Nations champions.
