T he Senegal Football Federation has unveiled head coach Pape Bouna Thiaw's 2026 World Cup squad. Captain Kalidou Koulibaly leads a list that retains the spine of recent campaigns, with Sadio Mané in attack and Édouard Mendy in goal, while a clutch of younger names is included as part of the federation's sustained investment in youth development. Senegal arrive in Group I alongside France, Norway and Iraq, aiming to push beyond the 2002 quarter-final that remains their best World Cup run.

The squad as published

Goalkeepers (3): Édouard Mendy, Mory Diaw, Yehvann Diouf. Defenders: Krépin Diatta, Antoine Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, El Hadji Malick Diouf, Mamadou Sarr, Moussa Niakhaté, Moustapha Mbow, Abdoulaye Seck, Ismail Jakobs, Ilay Camara. Midfielders: Idrissa Gana Gueye, Pape Gueye, Lamine Camara, Habib Diarra, Pathé Ciss, Pape Matar Sarr, Bara Sapoko Ndiaye. Forwards: Sadio Mané, Ismaïla Sarr, Iliman Ndiaye, Assane Diao, Ibrahim Mbaye, Nicolas Jackson, Bamba Dieng, Chérif Ndiaye. Head coach: Pape Bouna Thiaw. The published list runs to 28 names, two above the FIFA 26-man limit, and is being treated here as the federation's pre-deadline provisional. Two further cuts are due before the June 1 FIFA confirmation.

Koulibaly captain, Mendy and Mané the spine

Pape Bouna Thiaw has kept the experienced core. Centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly remains captain. In goal, Senegal lean on Édouard Mendy, with Mory Diaw and Yehvann Diouf alongside him. The defensive depth carries Moussa Niakhaté, Abdoulaye Seck, Ismail Jakobs, El Hadji Malick Diouf and Krépin Diatta across the back line. Midfield blends energy and experience: veteran Idrissa Gana Gueye is named alongside Pape Gueye, Lamine Camara, Habib Diarra, Pathé Ciss and Pape Matar Sarr.

Mané leads an attack with options

In attack Senegal again look to Sadio Mané. Around him sit Ismaïla Sarr, Nicolas Jackson, Iliman Ndiaye, Assane Diao and Bamba Dieng, with Chérif Ndiaye and PSG teenager Ibrahim Mbaye listed among the forwards. The mix gives Pape Bouna Thiaw both Premier League and Ligue 1 pace on the wings, and a true number nine option through Jackson.

Group I and the schedule

Senegal arrive in Group I alongside France, Norway and Iraq, one of the heaviest groups in the tournament. The Lions of Teranga will treat the opener against Norway and the third game against Iraq as the realistic points-on-the-board fixtures, with the France match as the test that defines the seeding for any round-of-32 path. Senegal's best World Cup result remains the quarter-final reached in 2002.
