J ersey City Mayor James Solomon has announced a four-part 2026 FIFA World Cup celebration series that turns the city across the Hudson from MetLife Stadium into a distributed fan hub for the duration of the tournament. Programming runs from the opening-week kickoff window in mid-June through the July 19 final, with free events in four different wards designed to drive foot traffic to neighborhood commercial corridors.

Four wards, four activations

The full programme:

**Flag Cities, June 12, Ward E.** An opening-window festival along Columbus Drive between Marin Boulevard and Washington Street, with large-scale programming, vendors and live match viewing tied to the regional World Cup kickoff.

**Bergen Square Egyptian Cultural Activation, June 21, Ward C.** A community-centred cultural event along the Bergen Avenue corridor aligned with Egypt vs New Zealand, developed with local cultural partners and neighborhood groups.

**The World on Central, July 10 to 11, Ward D.** A two-day activation during the quarter-finals weekend focused on bringing customers to Central Avenue's small businesses through street-festival programming and watch events.

**Around the World Watch Party, July 19, Ward B.** A final-day celebration on Claremont Avenue West Side featuring a "world village" festival and a public viewing experience for the championship match at MetLife.

"A reflection of who we are"

Solomon, sworn in as the city's 50th mayor on January 15, 2026, framed the series as a civic statement as much as a tournament programme. "It's a reflection of who we are," he said. "These four, completely free celebrations will showcase our neighborhoods, drive customers to our small businesses, and give residents and visitors unforgettable opportunities to come together and celebrate the World Cup, at no cost to taxpayers. We're proud to partner with Choose New Jersey to show the world what makes this city a truly global community."

How it is funded

The programming runs on a mix of private sponsorship and public grant funding. Named backers include Jersey City Medical Center / RWJBarnabas Health, KRE Group and LeFrak, alongside support from the New Jersey Urban Enterprise Zone Authority and Choose New Jersey. The organisers are developing the slate with neighborhood organisations, cultural groups and special improvement districts, with the explicit aim of capturing tournament-driven economic activity into Jersey City's small-business commercial spine.
